if I did have a non-integrated Web Ordering Printer then I'd perfer the impact printer for the noise. I want the kitchen to hear the printer so that they are certaint to fill the order since there is no waitress in their face looking to serve their table.

The BIXOLON Melodist uses both audio and visual signals to notify its users in a noisy environment, such as a kitchen, of any incoming orders from the counter by playing a melody sound with its built-in LED light blinking.

The idea that yo need a noisy printer to alert the kitchen staff that there is an order is rediculous.

What, are these people taking naps between work orders ?

Gee POSPerson I guess the device that View shows was built and sold just for “ships” and giggles.

Since you call yourself POSPerson it'd be nice to also understand how kitchens actually work and certainly as the kitchen staff are working on prep, earlier orders and clean up the sound of the printer tells them there is a new order and that is helpful.

I've been in thousands of kitchens and that is actually how it works. I’m not saying  that the sound is  "critical" just that all things being equal it’s a benefit, and that is the fact.

By the way for about ten years now it's been a sign of a complete and utter dufus* to have an AOL e-mail address, in my opinion. Perhaps you could try and not look like you're stuck in 1988.

Home users are not quite as pathetic, but someone who wants to portray themselves as a "tech person" really needs to have a clue, but on the other hand actually asking if the sound of an impact printer has any effect in a kitchen kind of rules you out as someone aware of the restaurant business in the first place so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Of course one would have to talk to a chef (or a thousand) to have a clue about what actually goes on in a restaurant. I have thought for years that learning the POS business takes time, but you need an understanding of the restaurant business first to best serve the industry.

Maitre whatever....

FYI.... I owned and operated a sucessful restaurant for 17 years,

And I have been the CEO of a restaurant POS software company for 32 years....

And your remark about my e-mail address ranks as  the most stupid thing you have ever posted.

Dear POSPerson,

You often sound to me like you have never stepped into a restaurant in your life. Your suggestion that the sound of a kitchen printer going off has never resulted in chefs walking over to tear off the chit is one example.

It's just not credible that that this is news to a person with all that experience, I have no idea why you wrote that. Seems exceptionally odd. For crying out loud look at the damn device that View posted a picture of. Why do you think the thing was invented?

You posted once that you've never heard of a hostess closing out checks I think your exact word was "weird". I've been in thousands of restaurants and it's kinda rare,  but never ? That sounds like the statement of a person completely unfamiliar with the industry.

Many family restaurants have the hostess/owner/cashier close the checks and when it's busy they have two share duties. I'm not that big a fan of that but it's not "news" to me. Another poster at the time told you that you sounded like you knew nothing of the industry and that is just how you sound to me, like its your first day.

As for the AOL e-mail, may I amend my statement? It's my experience that anyone who used an aol e-mail for the last 15 years (or more) has been viewed as a complete dork by teckies. Sorry if that's news to you. You may certainly have the last word on this thread. I'm done on the topic.

 Not entirely

The only possiblity I'm familiar with is having your printer connected to the wifi network directly in which you can print from your terminal via the wifi network, but that requires you to be on the same wifi network.
