Another Situation, how would you handle?
This morning, an employee, good record, 5 years with the operation was horse-playing in the service area. Removed the fire extinguiser, pull the pin and sprayed the white stuff in the kitchen, service area and dining room. All the linen and food was damaged. All the plates had to be washed, pots and pans also. The alarm went off, members had to go down 2 fllors. Fire Department came and so on
It costs the operation besides the fine to the city, new linen, pick up tab to some of the members at least $ 2000.Employee pitch in inmediately, helped clean the operation since we had to get ready for lunch.
The manager suspended her until next week.
I am sure she will her job because of property damage. Remember you have to set an example otherwise it will be done again.
What would you do?

Some things are inexcusable. Horse play or not, that would definintely be terms for dismissal or re-assignment if you work for a large company. How do you "accidentally" waste $2000? Will your boss take kindly to you if you don't let this person go?

lets not let one horseplay incident ruin everything.. first off it was a terrible thing to do. was it malicious???? or did the horseplay go too far???? how has the employees record been over the past 5 years??? yes a weeks suspension is a good answer.. fire that person?? i wouldnt if their previous record was in good standing..
i think they learned a valuable lesson.. we have to stop being so quick to fire people
who mess up onece in a while. goos dedicated help is very hard to find.. thank you

that person would be out the door in a matter of seconds. obviously this person had no regard or respect for the people and property that has been employing them for 5 years.
my thinking is that if the horseplay has gotten to this level, then it has been going on for a while. i would absolutely have to fire them, because if that person was to stay, it would be someone that i would have to watch and monitor, and i wouldn't want to waste my time doing that. I don't know of any chef or manager that has extra time on their hands to tolerate unexcusable behavior.
thank you
