The State of Louisiana has come up with a unique bill that rewards food service operations that source locally with a rebate of up to 4 percent.

If passed, the law could serve as a model for other states to up the stakes and get serious about supporting local growers and processors.

Here in New York, we may not have the seafood industry to support such a measure but there are plenty of other areas that could benefit from this type of legislation.
